Meeting with Matt

Matt from Redweb our BIMA partners, came to school today. We showed him the group at work with young and old students, our 3D cinemas and in return he explained how Redweb go about constructing websites. We have some research to do before our next meeting but are planning to go after school in January to work out the finer details. We are learning general stuff too about project management which is all really useful for lots of things.

Going Global

So we did joke about going global when we were at the BIMA event at Channel 4 - then we heard about a project looking for global social enterprise initiatives, so thought we would write in and give Internet Rangers a mention. They loved the idea and we have now been invited to meet with Sir Bob Geldof at the SSAT Annual Conference in Birmingham. We will have a closed meeting with him and later attend a media launch, plus open the gala dinner - so we certainly will have the chance to tell a few more folk about our project. Parliament on the Wednesday then Sir Bob, the founder of Live Aid on the Thursday - quite a week. Add to this some major funding news that I can't yet talk about and it is as if Christmas has come early.

Role Model

Today we had a visit from the person in charge of services for the elderly at Bournemouth County Council. He said that everything we were doing was a brilliant model for others to follow and although some people had thought about social enterprise, we were leading the way. He asked if they could highlight our group as role models, show the work we are doing and get involved in sending more older students our way. This fits really well with our plans to extend the group, so of course we said YES!

Invite to House of Commons

So busy at school, getting ready for Internet Rangers session and Ms Loughnan tells us that there has been an invitation for a representative from the group to meet with MPs at the House of Commons to discuss our project!!! They want to find out how it fits in with the BIG Society and we want them to know that our aim is to see lots of schools and communities offering a model like ours, so that older people are not excluded. Also been asked to give KEYNOTE Presentation at Oxford to the SSAT Business and Enterprise Conference.

Not bad for a Tuesday ;o)
